35 Of The Best Shortlisted Photos In The 2015 Sony World Photography Awards

The 2015 Sony World Photography Awards started accepting entries last year, ushering in a months-long competition poised to unearth the best emerging and professional photographers around the globe. We’ve been following the contest since last September, showcasing the best entries submitted in categories like travel, arts and culture, landscape, nature and wildlife, architecture, people and contemporary issues. After weeks of poring over the professional and amateur shots, we’re pleased to finally present the shortlist of winners for this year’s awards season.

The annual Sony World Photography Awards, which dates back to 2007, has seen over 700,000 submissions in its lifetime, reaching artists in over 230 different countries. The 2015 edition alone attracted 173,000 entries from 171 countries. Its aim, firmly stated on the World Photography website, is “to recognize and reward the best contemporary photography in the world.” Winners of the contest are eligible for a $30,000 cash prize, digital imaging equipment and the chance to exhibit in touring shows in London and beyond.
