Is Shampoo Better Than Conditioner? ‘Billy Madison’ Is 20 Years Old

It was 20 years ago today, in 1995, when everyone’s favorite obnoxious man-child went back to school. In “Billy Madison,” Adam Sandler’s titular 27-year-old went back to school to repeat 3rd grade through high school in order to take over his father’s hotel empire. Along the way, Billy hallucinated a giant penguin, gave possibly the dumbest (but best) Academic Decathlon answer ever and declared peeing one’s pants to be the coolest.

But “Billy Madison” also left our culture with a significant conundrum about personal hygiene: What’s better, shampoo or conditioner? Billy put the two hair products head-to-head in the legendary bathtub scene, positing that while shampoo goes on first and “cleans the hair,” conditioner leaves the hair “silky and smooth.” The question remains:
