Obama Says He Doesn’t Expect More Extensions in Talks With Iran

WASHINGTON — President Obama on Monday said he did not envision any more extensions in continuing negotiations with Iran to prevent the nation from obtaining nuclear weapons, and he pleaded for more time to allow those talks to play out before imposing new sanctions that he said could “sour” the potential for a deal.

“We’re at a point where they need to make a decision,” Mr. Obama said of Iranian officials, speaking at the White House during a news conference with the German chancellor, Angela Merkel.

The nuclear negotiations have already been extended twice and face a late March deadline for working out the main outlines of an accord. The deadline for a detailed agreement is the end of June.

“I do not believe another extension is in the interests of anybody,” Mr. Zarif said on Sunday.
