Qaeda Fighters Take Headquarters of Yemeni Army Brigade

RAIDA, Yemen — Fighters from Al Qaeda captured the headquarters of a Yemeni Army brigade on Thursday, an embarrassing setback for the Houthi militants who are nominally in control of the country’s military.

The Houthis effectively took power after the government collapsed on Jan. 22. Several Western countries that use the nation as a base to monitor Al Qaeda announced plans to close their embassies this week.
