Tina Maze Wins Women’s Downhill at Alpine Worlds; Lindsey Vonn Is Fifth

BEAVER CREEK, Colo. — Tina Maze of Slovenia won the women’s downhill at the Alpine world ski championships Friday, giving her a gold medal to add to the silver she won in the super-G Tuesday.

Maze finished in 1 minute 45.89 seconds, nudging Austria’s Anna Fenninger off the top step of the podium by two-hundredths of a second. The finish was a reversal of Tuesday’s women’s super-G, when Fenninger beat Maze by three-hundredths of a second.

“I still have two chances left in the super combined and giant slalom. And though my chances of doing anything there are slim, I’ll give it my all.”
