Brian Gallagher, president and CEO of United Way, stopped by HuffPost Live at Davos Wednesday where he talked about how interconnected the world is — and how that’s not necessarily an improvement.
“There is no doubt that we… have never been more interconnected as a world,” Gallagher said.
Gallagher said though that the world “feels more out of control” to people today.
“Because we’re interconnected doesn’t mean we’re in control,” he added.
“We see it economically, we see it socially, we’ve certainly see it in terms of terrorism… and yet our connection with each other is instantaneous 24/7. So being connected doesn’t mean control,” Gallagher said.
“We are clearly more aware of both good things and bad things that are happening around the world in real time,” Gallagher said.

Ermotti said he’s walked five kilometers so far today at Davos, which is “above average.”
Sergio Ermotti, the group CEO of UBS, spoke about cybersecurity threats in an interview with HuffPost Live at Davos.
“We need also to change the rules of the game in society in respect to privacy,” Ermotti said, noting even our governments infringing in privacy.

“Energy efficiency is a great answer for climate change, but it’s also a great answer for business,” he said.
“In the Western world, 30 percent of the food, water and energy that we all use… actually gets wasted, and that’s just throwing money away,” he said.
Cramer used the example of Hilton hotels versus Airbnb, saying CEOs of major companies have to think about their competition in a different way thanks to fundamental changes in consumer demand.
“Some people say that consumers are the ultimate green washers, consumers say that they will spend more money for environmentally friendly products, but actual data suggests that may not be the case,” Cramer said.
Cramer said consumers are starting to consider what they need, where to get it, what they pay for it before investing in products.
Aron Cramer, president and CEO of BSR, talked to HuffPost Live about social responsibility.
“Social responsibility is not about doing less… it’s about coming up with innovative products and services that meet the needs of the 21st century,” he said.
Adam Grant describes how the showrunner of ‘The Shield’ stopped male writers from talking over their female counterparts.
“I do think it’s fair to say Muslims have a responsibility to reform the culture,” Zakaria said.
