A jury found him guilty of 39 counts of manslaughter and endangering the lives of others at sea on Saturday.
The captain of the other vessel, which was owned by the Hong Kong Electric Company and had been carrying company employees and their families to watch a scheduled fireworks display, was sentenced to nine months in jail.
