Supporters Shave Heads, Post #NoHairSelfies For World Cancer Day

Cancer advocates are letting their hair down, but they’re not getting too comfortable.

Wednesday marks World Cancer Day, the advocacy event that raises awareness and funds for organizations that support patients and research.

One group is spreading inescapable facts — eg. 14 million people are diagnosed with the disease every year — in a hair-raising way that has already gotten donors to give 1.7 million Canadian dollars (about $1.35 million), so far.

The #NoHairSelfie campaign has enlisted activists to shave their heads and post an image of their shiny noggins to social media. The Canada-based initiative is raising funds for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation (PMCF), which supports its sister treatment facility.

Meet some of the brave folks who aren’t wasting time splitting hairs.
