We adults have learned a few important things about germs in the last century or so. For instance, we know that a fridge’s salad drawer is a germ metropolis, housing an average of over 7,000 germs per square centimeter. We know that an unclean kitchen sponge harbors about 200,000 more germs than a toilet seat. (Enjoy washing those dishes tonight.) And we know that one in six cell phones carries E. Coli.

But do you really know what’s going on with germs? Even scientists admit that they’re not sure how many germs are out there.
