These days, gym classes are becoming a rarity in schools (along with art class, electives and extracurriculars). While the curriculum and quality could vary — I distinctly remember a gym class unit focused on square dancing, which was more like an exercise in teenage disdain — physical education did offer a way to work out the excess energy that anyone under 17 is lucky enough to have.
