At Opening Ceremony, the Clothes Are Only the Start

It’s not at all unusual to be invited to a Chelsea gallery during fashion week. Designers love to rent out the galleries that line the far-west blocks of Chelsea — even in February, when frigid winds blow off the nearby river — to stage their fashion shows.

What’s more unusual is to descend from the canned heat of your Uber to find that a label not only rented out Cheim & Read on West 25th Street to show the works of their own hands, but also to curate a show of photography.
