Funerals Planned for 3 Muslim Students Killed in North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — This college town and its neighboring cities awoke Thursday to a day of grief as families prepared to lay to rest three Muslim students shot dead in their condominium complex in a crime that has stunned the community with its senselessness.

Funeral services for the dead — Deah Shaddy Barakat, a 23-year-old dental student here; his wife, Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha, 21, who was supposed to start at the dental school in the fall; and her sister, Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, 19 — are planned at a nearby mosque on Thursday afternoon.

Others poured in donations for a trip Mr. Barakat had been planning to bring dental care to Syrian refugees in Turkey. The fund-raising effort had been short of its $20,000 goal at the time of the murders. As of Thursday morning, the total stood at more than $200,000.
