Hundreds Of St. Louis Pets Strut Their Stuff At Mardi Gras Parade

ST. LOUIS — In celebration of Mardi Gras, St. Louis dogs (and one pig) gathered in the historic French neighborhood of Soulard to strut in the 22nd Annual Purina Beggin’ Pet Parade this weekend. Over 1,000 dogs registered to participate in the parade that helped benefit Open Door Animal Sanctuary, a “no kill” animal shelter that helps provide homes for strays. Five festive dogs took home prizes that their even-more-festive owners could enjoy. First prize winners for best female and male dog costume were awarded $2,500 each. Ellie, “chicken poodle soup,” won the title of “queen of the parade.” Check out some of the jazzy, spirited costumes below.
