Natalie Portman Makes Her Couture Debut at Dior

PARIS — It was day two at Haute Couture, and Natalie Portman was beaming. She was sitting in the front row at the Dior show, on the grounds of the Musée Rodin in Paris.

“I’ve never been to a couture show,” she said. “This is my first time. I’m super, super excited.”

In the space of 30 seconds, Ms. Portman used the words super and excited a half dozen times. She was dressed head to toe in Dior: a black cashmere top, a black skirt, tweed coat, along with Dior shoes and bag. Her husband, Benjamin Millepied, the new director of the Paris Opéra Ballet, was also on hand.

If the ’70s was the trend for the ready-to-wear collections three months ago, the trend in couture this season is those mirrors: on the wall, on the ceiling, from the rafters. At Schiaparelli on Monday morning, mirrorlike panels lined the walls and shook to the soundtrack. Carla Bruni-Sarkozy watched on. On Monday evening, at the Giambattista Valli show, there were 11 oversize mirrors, positioned diagonally over the course of the runway.

Mirror, mirror, who’s the fairest one of them all at Couture so far? Probably just Instagram posts.
