Prank From Grave Gives Dead Woman The Last Laugh

Talk about getting the last laugh … An 83-year-old Connecticut woman who died Jan. 27 pre-wrote her own obituary in which she claimed she had died hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro. The obituary, which Norma Brewer wrote 11 years earlier with a friend, suggested that the cause of her death was hypothermia after her dog, Mia, had eaten her warm winter socks and boots.

Brewer, of course, isn’t the only person to write an obituary that captured the public’s attention. Margaret (Marge) Aitken Holcombe of Hilton Head, South Carolina wrote a funny depiction of her life to be published upon her death. And actor James Rebhorn, who died of cancer at age 65, left behind an obituary he penned himself that he called “His Life According To Jim.” It appeared originally on his church’s website but quickly went viral.
