Fashion therapist and author Tim Gunn has seen his share of models wipe out on the cat walk during Fashion Week — but a lot can be said for their quick recovery! “They’re professionals,” Tim says, “they get up and they keep walking.” What causes models to slip? Tim says that it’s almost always some kind of shoe issue. Sometimes it’s a hem that’s too long on a gown or pair of pants, which gets caught on the heels of the models.

Start with a black or cordovan loafer. You’re not going to get a lot of versatility out of dress shoes, so the loafer might ease the transition into dressier shoes.
