Why are we seeing a rise in allergies? According to Dr. Richard Besser, we’re so conscious of keeping the environment that our children are in clean during their early years that we’re not exposing them to the things that trigger allergies — so their immune systems don’t have the chance to regulate them. Another theory about why allergies are on the rise is that we’re over using antibiotics, especially on children when they’re little, which kills off some of the microbes in our intestines that are very important for preventing allergies, and because of that, it’s leading to a rise in allergies later in life.
