Walmart Says It Will Raise Some Workers’ Pay as It Reports a Rise in Profit and Shoppers

Walmart, the United States’ largest employer, said Wednesday that it would increase wages for a half-million employees as it reported its first rise in shopper traffic in more than two years.

Walmart also recorded its first rise in shopper traffic in over two years, and credited lower gas prices and milder weather. The fiscal quarter, which ended Jan. 30, is considered critical for retailers because it includes the holiday season sales.
