Why Americans Struggle So Much With Overwork And Burnout

Americans are notorious for working long hours without a reasonable cushion of paid sick leave or vacation time to take advantage of when they need it most. At the World Economic Forum this week, Adam Grant, a Wharton Business School professor and the author of Give and Take, joined HuffPost Live’s Alyona Minkovski to discuss whether or not U.S. employees would be happier with a little more down time.

“I think it’s very tempting to move to France, especially if you’re American,” said Grant. “But I think it’s worth saying that not all of us feel that way. A lot of people work because it’s a huge part of their identity, and they experience their jobs as a significant part of their lives. But yeah, we probably overdo it here in the U.S.”
